Avhurengwi Nengovhela is the Chief Executive Officer of the Coaltech Research Association, where he drives collaborative research, technology development, and sustainability innovation across South Africa’s mining sector. With deep expertise in mining engineering, geology, ESG, and strategic governance, Avhurengwi leads multi-stakeholder initiatives that strengthen operational efficiency while advancing responsible, future-focused mining practices.

He holds an MBA, an MSc in Mining Engineering, a Master of Earth Sciences in Geology, a Graduate Diploma in Mining Engineering, a Postgraduate Diploma in Digital Business, and a Certificate in Financial Analysis and Management Accounting from the London School of Economics. He has also completed executive education in ESG and Sustainability at GIBS.

Previously, Avhurengwi served as Senior Strategy Manager at Deloitte Consulting, advising mining houses and executive teams on governance, risk, regulatory alignment, sustainability reporting, and ESG integration. His work continues to influence industry standards and long-term sustainability outcomes across the mining value chain.
